"Glory of the 80's" is the fourth song on Tori Amos' 1999 album To Venus and Back. The song was released as the fourth and final single from the album in Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Background[]

The lyrics include several references to pop culture, including the song "Bette Davis Eyes" performed by Kim Carnes (referred to as "that blonde chick" in the song) and the 1954 novel Story of O by Pauline Réage.[1]

The song also mentions "auditioning for reptiles in their Raquel Welch campaign", which might be a reference to Amos' performance as a keyboard player in a commercial Welch shot for Crystal Light. During the shoot, Amos was reportedly told to tone it down.

"Glory of the 80's" was released as a single in Australia, United Kingdom and Germany with B-sides of live solo performances from the 1998 Plugged Tour. The Australian single and part one of the German and UK releases included "Famous Blue Raincoat" (mislabeled as "Blue Raincoat" in Australia and Germany) and "Twinkle". Part two of the German and UK singles included renditions of "Baker Baker" and "Winter".[2]
