The album version of "Professional Widow" appeared on the Escape from L.A. motion picture soundtrack released on July 15, 1996.[1]
Live performances[]
"Professional Widow" was first performed live during the 1996 Dew Drop Inn Tour and has been played on several tours since, exclusively with a band.[2] The song was performed by the character Pip on the 2007 American Doll Posse World Tour.[3] During the same tour, Armand's Star Truck Funkin' Mix was used as an interlude between Acts I and II each night; Amos' bandmates jammed to a recording of the remix after the first act ended.
Merry Widow Version (1996)[]
A unique live rendition of "Professional Widow" recorded during the Dew Drop Inn Tour was released as the 'Merry Widow Version' on the "Hey Jupiter" single EP in 1996. This version of the song had alternate lyrics and was played entirely on the organ.
In 2014, Polari Magazine's Andrew Lachey praised the Merry Widow Version as one of Amos' finest rarities, writing that it "transforms the original, in an almost unrecognizable way, emphasizing her adaptability and fluidity towards her own compositions".[4]
