"Sucker" is an outtake from singer-songwriter Tori Amos' 1996 album Boys for Pele. While recorded during sessions for the album in 1995, the song was only officially released on the deluxe reissue of Boys for Pele in 2016.

"Sucker" serves as the predecessor to the song "Walk to Dublin (Sucker Reprise)", which was also recorded during the Boys for Pele sessions but released in 2006.

Background[]

Amos told Vulture in 2016 that she had refrained from releasing the song at the time of its recording "because it’s my punk harpsichord statement. And then I didn’t think about it really at the time." When asked why she adapted the song into "Walk to Dublin" and waited until the reissue to release "Sucker", Amos commented:

We were just exploring. I didn’t think both of those should be out. I thought there were plenty of harpsichord songs on the record I guess, so through a different lens, things seem different. And I just thought it was time to put “Sucker” out now.

Critical reception[]

"Sucker" received generally positive reviews from critics. Simon Smith of HigherPlainMusic called the song "a spiteful orgy of harpsichord smashing, piano low note rolling venom fest".
